The Gospel According to the Bible
The Gospel is the good news that God through Christ, for those who would believe, has provided salvation from God’s wrath and justice for their rebellion and sins against Him, and thereby restored peace and fellowship with God for eternity.
God is the sovereign Creator: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1, and John 1:1-3; John 1:14; Colossians 1:15-17; Psalm 103:19
God is Holy, Holy, Holy: “And one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!’” – Isaiah 6:3, and I Samuel 2:2; Psalm 37:28; James 1:13-15; I Peter 1:15-16
ALL mankind is sinful: “…as it is written: ‘None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.’ – Romans 3:10-12, and Romans 3:23;
I Kings 8:46; Psalm 51:5; Isaiah 59:2; Proverbs 14:12
Our Sin demands a penalty from a Holy God: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23, and Hebrews 9:27;
Ezekiel 18:4
From what are those who believe saved? God’s Wrath: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” – Romans 1:18, and 2:5; John 3:36; Luke 12:5
Jesus is Lord and Savior – Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross as the substitute to pay the sin debt for each of those who trust in Him. Jesus was buried, was raised on the third day proving He was God and the perfect and acceptable substitute: “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” Romans 5:8-11, and Romans 4:20-25; I Corinthians 15:3-4; John 14:6
According to our authority for faith and practice, Scripture Alone, we are saved by Grace Alone, through Faith Alone, in Christ Alone, to God’s Glory Alone, and NOT by Works! Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Romans 10:9-119 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says,’ Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.’ and Romans 10:13; Romans 3:21-28; John 17:6-12, John 10:14-15
To be saved we must be “Born Again”: “Jesus answered him,’ Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.’ Nicodemus said to him, ‘How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?’ Jesus answered, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.’ – John 3:3-8, and John 6:44, John 15:16&19; Ephesians 1:4-10; Romans 3:10-11
The Character of Saving Faith: True faith is always accompanied by repentance from sin. Both faith & repentance are gifts from God. Repentance is agreeing with God that you are a sinner, confessing your sin to Him, and making a conscious choice to turn from sin, and pursue and obey Christ. It is NOT enough to believe certain facts about Christ – even Satan believes in God – but they do not love and obey Him. True saving faith always responds in obedience and produces the fruit of good works. No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” –
Luke 13:3 & 5, I Thessalonians 1:9, Matthew 11:28-30, John 17:3, James 2:19, Ephesians 2:10
Salvation through Christ brings peace with God: ‘Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.’ – Romans 5:1, and
Romans 8:1-2, Romans 38-39
